This study was carried out to estimate effect of slope site as a factor of environments on variance of height and diameter growth by family in half-sib progeny of Korean White Pine.
Data were collected from 7-, 12-, and 17-year-old trees by family in the progeny test forest established in Kyung Hee university forest loca-ted at Youngdong-Gun, Chungchongbuk-do province.
Average heights and diameters were 59.1±0.6cm(cv=30.4%) and 10.1±0.lmm(cv=25.1%) in 7-year-old, 198.7±1.7cm(cv=23.5%) and 39.2±0.4mm(cv=26.5%) in 12-year-old, and 443.5± 2.6㎝(cv=16.5%) and 81.2±0.6mm(cv=22.1%) in 17- year-old, respectively.
No. 20 family showed excellent growth of 79.1±2.8cm and 12.9±0.3mm in 7-year- old, 236.2±6.5cm and 46.7±1.3mm in 12-year-old, and 502.0±9.6cm and 90.4±2.5mm in 17year-old in mean height and diameter. No. 21 family showed worst growth of 46.7±1.7cm and 8.8±0.2mm in 7-year-old, 168.8±4.6cm and 33.8±l..1mm in 17-year-old in mean height and diameter.
Height and diameter growth variance was influenced by slope site with family. Family source more affected on variance of height and diameter growth than slope site did. On the whole, growth variances due to slope site decreased and cleared with tree age increase but showed differently in height and diameter. Between slope distance from down to up and height and diameter growth minus correlation was found and varied with family, significant correlation coefficient appeared in only 6 of all 16 families in height growth but only one family in diameter growth on 7-, 12-, and 17-year-old trees.
