The German Metropolitan Region Planning of Berlin and Brandenburg can be regarded as special space and structure to meet two different social systems after collapse of the ideological and political conflicts. These two Planning Regions are situated at the rapid concentration of population and political and economic organizations just only on Berlin and her surrounding areas in the one hand, but in her outside there largely exist wide undeveloped agricultural areas in the other hand. The negative effects of this tendency are the deepening of social segregation, the rise of land price like as traffic congestion at regional revel. In order to solve these complex social problems, the two Regions Berlin and Brandenburg devised "the Joint Spatial Development of the metropolitan region Berlin-Brandenburg", which shows the principle of decentralized concentration and balanced regional growth. It can be summed up with the strategies by means of the development of 6 medium-sized core cities and the railroad oriented traffic planning. These 6 medium-sized cities are located in rural area about 80 km distant from Berlin. They are connected with non-stop railroads system to Berlin. It is suggestive of the Korean Metropolitan Region Planning. The regional space of Seoul and Kyonggi can not be regarded separatedly. Rather, it has an interdependent relationship likely to the one of Berlin-Brandenburg. This case study will contribute to reveal the future-oriented principles of the German Metropolitan Region Planning of Berlin and Brandenburg.
