Land Reform during the Period of the Popular Front of the Second Republic of Spain This article investigates land reform during the period of the Popular Front of the Second Republic of Spain. It analyses these aspects of land reform, that is, land problem in the Popular Front pact, correlation between treating land problem and composing political scene, and responses of the political parties and social organizations faced with the land reform of the Popular Front government. At first, we have to put emphasis on the fact that the political groups which took part in the Popular Front did not have come to an mutual agreement about land reform in their electoral pact. But it is no doubt that the new political scene which was composed by the elections made a great contribution to the acceleration of the land reform. In response to these efforts of Popular Front government the political parties and social organizations showed two great reactions: the Left showed signs of disintegration with the lapse of time while, the Right assumed a critical attitude toward the land reform with unanimity. The pressure of the Caballero socialists, comunists and the anarcho-syndicalists, and the rising discontent of the landless labourers, created what the Right considered a collapse of public order. This was a political, economic and social situation from which arose the spanish Civil War.
