북한의 전략문화와 핵 협상전략에 관한 경험적 연구

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article aims to figure out the North Korean strategic culture and negotiating strategy. In order to make fasifiable data and argument, this study applies research method of event data analysis to the first and second nuclear crises. The research focus is how North Korea dealt with U.S., in terms of negotiating strategy. The result of this empirical analysis on those cases showed us the important features and implications of North Korea’s strategic culture. First, North Korea almost never choose appeasement strategy as a negotiating strategy. Second, in the bargaining process, North Korea is not likely to begin with a cooperative move. To take the initiative in the process, North Korea prefers conflictual attempt to conciliatory one. Finally, North Korea is skillful in combining cooperative behavior with conflictual strategy, which means North Korea has a high level of strategic flexibility.
