한성기(漢城期) 백제의 장군호(將軍號) 활용 배경과 정치적 의미 = Historical background of Baekje`s utilization of general-title and its political meaning during Hanseong Period

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한성기 말 백제왕은 신하들에게 장군호를 假授하고 이를 劉宋에 알려 정식으로 승인받았다. 이러한 假授 및 除正 요청은 백제왕이 책봉을 통해 장군호를 지니고 있었기에 가능했다. 이것은 중국에서 장군호를 수여받은 인물들이 開府하여 府官을 두고 그들을 장군으로 加官하거나 郡縣 장관직에 보임시킨 것과 흡사하다. 물론 백제에서 軍府가 실제로 설치된 것은 아니었다. 다만 백제왕은 ‘장군’이라는 대내외적으로 공인된 지위를 능동적으로 활용하였을 뿐이다. 이 같은 假授·除正을 통한 장군호 활용은 당시 중국 주변국 중에서 백제와 倭에서만 확인되며, 백제의 장군호 활용이 倭에 영향을 미쳤다고 생각된다. 백제는 중국 왕조의 책봉을 계기로 장군호를 활용했지만 그것은 백제가 중국 왕조의 제후국이기 때문은 아니었다. 백제에는 이미 고유의 관제가 있었기 때문에 北魏의 ‘承制假授’權 부여 사례와 같이 책봉을 계기로 중국의 관직을 설치한 것은 아니었다. 백제왕은 자신의 ‘장군’ 책봉을 계기로 내부적 필요에 의해 장군호를 활용했다. 백제에서 장군호는 한성기 말에 활용되기 시작했다고 판단된다. 왕권이 약화되었거나 혹은 정국이 불안정했던 시점에 국왕의 위상을 높이고 그 지지세력의 입지를 강화하기 위한 이유 등 주로 왕권강화와 관련하여 장군호가 활용되었다. 백제에서 중국의 장군호를 정치적으로 활용한 것은 백제사회 전반에 중국제 물품 및 중국 관작에 대한 우호적 인식이 있었던 점과 관련되며, 또한 중국 관작이 정치적으로 효용성이 있었기에 가능했다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

King of Baekje temporarily appointed his courtier as general(將軍), which is chinese public office, and received formal approval from the Liu-Song(劉宋) after reporting of the appointment of his courtier to the Chinese dynasty during the last stage of Hanseong Period(漢城期). The temporary appointment of courtier(假授) and the formal approval(除正) by the Chinese dynasty was related to general-title(將軍號) of king of Baekje. King of Baekje got the title through the Tributary System with the chinese dynasty. The utilization of general-title in Baekje was very similar to the appointing general(將軍) and Taishou(太守) of subordinates(府官) by the lord(high ranking general) who``s the chief of general division(軍府). Of course, the general division did not exist in Baekje. Merely, king of Baekje utilized general-title in the capacity of his general-title that was recognized officially by the chinese dynasty. The utilization of general-title through the temporary appointment of courtier and the formal approval appears only in Baekje and ancient Japan(倭), and there is high probability of Baekje’s influence to ancinet Japan in utilizing general-title. Although the utilization of general-title in Baekje was possible thorough the Tributary System, it doesn’t mean that Baekje was royal class nation of Chinese dynasty. There was a unique public office system in Baekje. Because of that, there’s no need to accept chinese public office system through the Tributary System. King of Baekje utilized general-title only under the internal necessity. In Baekje, general-title was utilized from the last stage of Hanseong Period. General-title was mainly utilized in connection with strengthening of royal authority in a very difficult time that royal authority was weaken or political situation was unstable. In that hard times, general-title was utilized with the purpose of strengthening of royal authority status and of supporters group of the kingship. The political utilization of general-title in Baekje had a connection with the traditional sense of closeness about chinese goods and public office system in Baekje society at large, and it was possible under existence of the political usefulness of the chinese public office in Baekje society.
