디지털 인문학 관점에서 본 근대문학 데이터베이스 구축과 활용 가능성 = Building and Exploring the Potential of Korean Modern Literary Databases from a Digital Humanities Perspective

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 한국 근대문학 원문 텍스트를 체계적으로 디지털화하여 학술 연구와 대중적 활용의 기반을 확대하기 위해, 효율적이고 표준화된 데이터베이스 구축을 통한 활용 가능성을 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 특히 1894~1945년 사이의 근대문학 텍스트는 갑오개혁 이후부터 일제강점기에 이르는 급격한 변화를 거치며, 신문･잡지･단행본 등 다양한 매체를 통해 폭넓게 전개되었다. 이러한 텍스트를 일관성 있게 수집･정비하는 작업은 기존의 정전 중심 해석을 보완하고 다각적인 관점에서 근대문학의 전모를 조망하는 데 도움이 될 수 있다.
현재 제공되는 데이터베이스는 원문 이미지 형태에 한정되어 있어 텍스트 마이닝 등 계량적 분석과 같은 연구 방법론을 적용하기 어렵다. 또한, 원문 전사 및 현대어 표기 변환 등의 디지털 가공이 충분히 이루어지지 않아 활용 측면에서도 한계를 보인다. 이를 해결하기 위해서는 일관된 디지털화와 표준화된 지침을 마련하고, 원문 이미지･전사본･현대어 표기 변환본을 제공하는 체계적인 구축이 요구된다.
디지털 인문학적 접근 방식은 방대한 텍스트 데이터를 기반으로 네트워크 분석, 토픽모델링, 의미망 분석 등 다양한 계량적 기법을 적용하여 문학 연구의 외연을 확장할 수 있는 가능성을 열어준다. 이를 위해서는 정밀한 형태소 분석과 품사 주석이 포함된 데이터 구축이 필수적이다. 체계적인 데이터베이스 구축 및 디지털화 작업은 근대문학 자료의 학술적 가치를 제고하고, 대중의 접근성을 확대하며, 인문학의 공공성을 한층 강화할 것이다.

This study aims to explore the feasibility of developing an efficient and standardized database that expands the foundation for both academic research and public use by systematically digitizing the primary texts of Korean modern literature. In particular, modern literature texts from the period between 1894 and 1945 underwent a period of rapid transformation and were widely disseminated through various media, including newspapers, magazines, and books. The consistent collection and organization of these texts can complement existing canonical interpretations and help provide a multifaceted view of modern literature.
At present, the existing database is limited to image versions of the original texts, hindering the application of research methods like text mining and quantitative analyses. Furthermore, digital processes such as transcription and conversion into modern language notation have not been sufficiently implemented, restricting the database’s practical utility. To address these limitations, it is essential to establish standardized digitization protocols and provide comprehensive resources, including original text images, transcriptions, and modernized versions.
Adopting a digital humanities approach would enable the expansion of literary research through the application of quantitative techniques such as network analysis, topic modeling, and semantic network analysis, all of which rely on large-scale text data. Achieving this goal will require the construction of data with precise morphological analysis and part-of-speech tagging. The systematic creation and digitization of this database will enhance the academic value of modern literary materials, improve public accessibility, and further promote the societal value of the humanities.
