지역발전과 지역적 정당투표 = Regional Development and Regional Party Voting

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines he material and economic bases of regional party voting by analyzing the effects of Korean attitudes of regional conflicts on regional party voting in Korea. We find that the Korean attitude toward regional development is determined more by one`s place of residence than by that of birth, that the preferences for regional development have positive effects on regional party support, and that effects of regional development issues have increased in the voting decision of Korean people since democratization. These findings provide rare empirical evidences that the regional party voting indeed has the material and economic bases. We expect that the importance of regional development issues in the elections would grow while conflicts and confrontation surrounding regional development could expand to the axes of ``metropolitan-local`` and ``urban-rural`` areas from that of ``Youngnam-Honam-Chungchung`` areas.
