‘The belief in Jesus, the Lord who was crucified but was raised to a new life’ can be said to be the cornerstone of Christology which is the most essential component of Christian faith that led to the birth of Christianity. This belief can be divided into the historical Jesus who was born on this earth and was crucified, and the Christ who was resurrected after being crucified. This naturally leads to the question of continuity or discontinuity between the historical Jesus and the resurrected Christ, which is also a question that is being specifically debated in Christology today.
This paper examines the historical process of exploring the historical Jesus and the concept of resurrection based on the Bible, and then addresses the question of continuity or discontinuity between the historical Jesus and the resurrected Christ based on the results. In addition, this paper examines whether the claim of continuity before and after the resurrection of Jesus Christ is in accordance with the words of the Bible and whether such continuity is necessary for Christian faith.
