세계화와 한국 정당: 정당개혁에서의 세계모델 확산과 탈동조화 = Globalization and Party in Korea: World Society Theory and Analysis of Discourse about Party Reform and Practice

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper presents the influence of globalization on politics and culture as a relevant factor, which drives diffusion of democratic political institutions. To explain this, I use the theory of world society, which regards world society as an independent society with common logic and norms above the national state. As a case study, I analyse the influence of globalization on the discourse about party reform and practice in Korea. The discussion about party reform occurs between two party models from classical party typology: the electoral-professional party and the mass party. The analysis of reform practice focuses on the following two relevant topics: 1) bottom-up style pf nominating candidates, and 2) types of party membership. I analyse theses topics with respect to three major parties of Korea, Democratic Labour Party, Youlin-Uri Party and Grand National Party.

Discourse analysis and analysis about practice verify the hypothesis of world society theory. Korean parties converge towards the world model by introducing various models. But this process of isomorphism and structural expansion is also attained through the phenomenon of decoupling.
