Today the auto industry tends to design and manufacture various models due to high fuel price, fuel price policy, and varying customers’ demands. Moreover, the auto market is suffering from excessive supply and the technical competition is stiffening. In order for an auto industry to survive, quality improvement, improved fuel efficiency and cost saving must be achieved. Customer satisfaction is also vital.
The objective of study is to modify a single engine assembly line to produce mixed engines without sacrificing quality and productivity. MODAPTS(Modular Arrangement for Predetermined Time Standards) is used to analyze each assembly process, FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis) to find problems of current assembly line, and TOC (Theory of Constraints) to find fundamental problems and to suggest a solution.
This study focuses on the processes which cause problems in producing mixed engines. Based on the analysis, this study suggests a method to improve the process that installs dummy adapter and wiring harness for COLD TEST and HOT TEST.
