고등학생의 무단행위에 영향을 미치는 변인 분석 = An Analysis on the Factors of Korean High SchoolStudents’ Truancy

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper examines the impact of personal, family and school factors on truancy in secondary schools in Korea. We use the data collected from 9,692 students in 140 high schools in 2007. For the statistical analysis, a zero-inflated model is applied, taking into account the data distribution particularity. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, truancy is influenced by the students' prior truancy. This suggests that earlier educational intervention is needed to reduce the probability of truancy. Second, the impact of the students' personal family experiences, such as family violence, on truancy is found to be significant. This result tells us that the earlier educational intervention is conducted to reduce the negative impact of family background on truancy, the more effective it could be. Finally, truancy is related to the students' negative experiences in school, and also to the school climate. This implies that more efforts to lessen the effect of experiences of negative teachers' expectancy on students and to enhance positive experiences of meaningful learning in school is needed to reduce truancy. Although a school climate that emphasizes academic achievement tends to reduce the probability of truancy, care should be taken in interpreting this result, considering the dynamics with the other variables.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 학교부적응이나 학업중단의 징후로 간주되는 무단행위(무단으로 수업빼먹기, 무단결석)를 하느냐의 여부에 그리고 그 빈도에 영향을 미치는 변인들을 탐색하고 정책적 시사점을 발견하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 분석을 위해 활용한 자료는 한국교육개발원에서 2007년도에 수행한 한 선행연구에서 수집한 것으로 일반계와 실업계 고등학생을 대상으로 조사하여 회수된 9,692명의 것이다. 분석대상이 된 자료에 의하면 1년 간 무단으로 수업빠지기를 해본 경험이 있는 학생은 14.6%, 무단결석을 해본 경험이 있는 학생은 8.9%였다. 이렇듯 대다수가 무단 수업빠지기와 무단결석을 하지 않는, 0의 값이 과도한 분포(Zero Inflated Poisson)를 지닌 자료의 특성에 적합한 방법을 동원하였다. 무단행위를 할 집단과 그렇지 않을 두 잠재집단을 설정하여 응답자가 각 집단에 속할 확률을 추정하고, 특정 집단에 속할 경우 빈도에 영향을 미치는 변인을 추정하는 분석 모형을 적용하였다.
분석결과 무단으로 수업빠지기와 무단결석을 하는 것에 영향을 미치는 변인과 이들의 빈도에 영향을 미치는 변인들이 대체로 공통된다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이전의 무단행위 경험이나 친구 무단행위, 가정폭력 경험, 학교에서의 교사의 부정적 관심, 수업 소외감, 성취경쟁 압력 등은 무단 수업빠지기나 무단결석을 하는 데, 그리고 그 빈도에 공통된 영향을 미쳤다. 이밖에 무단으로 수업빠지기 행위를 하느냐의 여부나 빈도에 부모자녀의 관계나 교사의 열의가 유의미한 영향을 미쳤다. 무단결석의 경험여부에는 부모의 교육기대가 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 이러한 결과를 기초로 무단행위를 예방하기 위하여 가정의 부정적 경험을 극복할 수 있도록 지원하는 방안, 학교에서 유의미한 학습경험 등 긍정적인 경험을 제공하는 방안 등을 제안하였다.
