위기의 미술대학:누가,누구에게,무엇을 가르치는가 = The Art College in Crisis: Pedagogy by Who, for Whom and of What?

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국의 예술 교육은 심각한 단계로 접어들었다. 외부로부터 유입된 우위의 예술을 잠시 동안 저장하는 탱크로 기능하기 때문이다. 예술 교육이 장기적인 비전을 고민하지 않을 때 제국적, 팽창주의적 야망을 실어 나르게 된다.
대학은 기업의 인재를 길러내기에 급급하고, 장기적인 비전에 대해 고민하지 않는다. 이는 예술대학에도 마찬가지로 적용되어, 학생은 스타 작가가 되기 위해 작업한다. 대학은 시장에서 통하는 작가를 양성하는 데 주력한다. 교수는 채용이라는 굴레 속에서 순응적이고 타협적인 태도를 갖게 된다. 성공의 기준이 잘 팔리는 것으로 가늠됨에 따라, 교과 과정은 당대 우위의 취미에 부응하는 감각과 전략을 가르친다. 이러한 예술대학의 체제 아래 개혁 미학의 지평이 열리기를 기대하기란 어려운 일이다.예술 분야의 과도한 이론과 고등 학위는 예술 교육이 당면한 파국을 시야에서 가리기 위한 기제다. 시각예술 전문가가 아니라 예술가가 되기를 원한다면, 미술대학의 실기실과 강의실로부터 탈주하는 것이 답이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Art education in Korea has entered a serious phase. It is because of its function as a tank temporarily storing superior art flowing in from outside. When art pedagogy fails to struggle with a long-term vision, it ends up transporting Imperialist and expansionist ambitions. The university is preoccupied with fostering corporate talent, impervious to any long-term visions. This applies to art schools, too, and students' ultimate goal is becoming a star artist. The art school focuses on supplying the market according to the latter's demands. Pressured by their employment contracts, professors adopt accommodating and compromising attitudes. With marketability the dominant measure of success, curricula are geared toward indoctrinating in sensibilities and strategies meeting the times' prevailing tastes. Challenging is to expect an unfolding of new horizons for reformative aesthetics under such a system governing art colleges.The excessive theorizing and high degrees in the arts serve as a device to conceal art pedagogy's catastrophe. If one wishes to become an artist, instead of a visual arts specialist, the answer for them is to escape from the studios and classrooms of the art college.
