적성의전(積成義傳)의 서사구조와 소설사적 위치 = A Study on escriptive characteristic and a position amongnovels history of JeockSeongUhJeon

국문 초록 (Abstract)

<적성의전>은 작자 및 창작 연대 미상의 국문 고전소설로서 방각본 11 종, 필사본 16종, 구활자본 5종이며 유포본은 방각본 11종, 필사본 16종, 구활자본 5종으로 다양하게 유포되었다. 인행방식(印行方式)이 다양하고 이본이 양적으로 풍부하다는 사실로 미루어 보아 당시 독자들에게 상당한 인기가 있었음을 짐작할 수 있다.
<적성의전(積成義傳)>은 <狄成義專>, <翟成義傳>, <亦聖義專>, <謫成義傳> 등으로 불리며 작품의 배경에 따라 <안평국전>이라고도 한다. 고전 소설에서 윤리성을 말하기 위한 방법으로 충(忠), 효(孝), 열(烈), 우애(友愛) 등의 소재가 있는데 <적성의전>은 효와 우애에 관한 소설이다. 이 작품은 효행구친담류의 탐색적인 서사구조를 지닌 불전설화와 유사한 모습으로 유전되다가 국문소설의 성행과 함께 오늘날의 모습으로 창작되었으리라 사료된다. 설화가 소설로 발전하여 대중화 된 시기를 감안한다면 그 창작시기는 대체로 17 혹은 18세기로 추정할 수 있을듯하다.
<적성의전>의 형성과정에 대한 그간의 논의는 대부분 불교설화에 치우쳐 있음을 알 수 있다. 그러나 작품 내용을 살펴보면 이와는 다른 측면으로 유교의 효와 선행에 대한 의리가 표면적 주제로 작품 전체에 일관되게 흐르고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 그 바탕에 이상세계라는 도교적 색채가 깔려 있다.
<적성의전>은 효성을 위한 적장자와의 대립과 적장자의 모해로 인해 성의가 맹인이 되어 고난을 겪다가 구출자를 만나 폼을 의탁하고 공주와 혼인을 맺는 이야기로 이루어져 있다. 이 작품은 악한 항의와 선한 성의의 대결을 통해 ‘출중한 효성과 아울러 선행에 대한 의리’를 강조하고 있다.
왕위계승을 두고 빚어지는 적장자와의 갈등은 조선시대 정치현실에서 빈번했던 일이다. <적성의전>은 이와 같은 현실적 상황을 소설 작품 속에 담음으로써 환상공간의 배경 설정에도 불구하고 그 나름의 사설 가능성을 내비치고 있다.
또한 <적성의전>은 형제간의 대립을 통해서 ‘우애’를 나타내려고 한 것이 아니라, 성품이 현격히 차이가 나는 두 인물의 대립을 통해 효성과 결연(혼인)과정을 보여주고자 하였다. 즉 <적성의전>의 주제는 ‘영웅적 인물의 출중한 효성과 결연(혼인) 및 선행에 대한 의리’를 보여주고자 한 것이라 판단된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study intends to make clear the descriptive characteristic of JeockSeongUhJeon which was read widely in the later Chosun era. In this thesis, the power actions, which happen in intervals between characters or between character and system, are the focus. And the limitation of the existing studies aims to be overcome through that.
This study can be summarized as following.
First, Sungeui of JeockSeongUhJeon does not become the Crown Prince because of the existing rules. But he succeeds the throne, showing the qualifications like his looking for the medicine, Hangeui's threat and his marriage with the Chinese princess.sungeui's coronation, the second son, is the destruction of the exist system. Consequently, Sungeui is shaped into the ideological character corresponding with the system.
Second, the modernization oriented consciousness of the writer appeared in JeockSeongUhJeon is analyzed through the second son's coronation which is the reflection of the modemistic consciousness. Characters are in the equal position and start power struggles each other. Princess Chaeran is a subject that watch actively and a solver that get positively through the battle during the Sungeui's returning.
As presented, though Sungeui's side seems impressed by Sungeui's filial piety, it is more active and positive for their interests and vested rights. And it also shows modern characteristics as a positive doer scolding and punishing high class, Hangeui. Therefore, the subject is the principles of righteousness about good conducts and filial piety through between brothers conflicts.
