Golf is a modern sports whose players get bigger recently. As the players get increased, the golf clubs increase in numbers and the competition gets intense as well. Therefore, upgrading and maintaining high service quality of golf clubs gains more importance in these days.
This paper puts focus on the perceived service quality of golf clubs, measures service quality in the category of tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy based on the Parasuraman et al. (1988)'s service quality model, investigate the effect of service quality on customer satisfaction and re-visit intention. In addition, recognizing the fact that the same service may be perceived differently by different persons, moderating variables are proposed and tested.
The questionnaire is developed by adopting and modifying the SEVQUAL measures based on the Parasuraman et al. (1988)’s study. The questionnaire is pilot-tested, modified and finally administrated to the visitors of golf clubs in Kyungnam and Chonnam area. 124 questionnaires are collected and one questionnaire is deleted at the analysis due to the negligence.
The purpose of the study is to find the effect of the golf club service quality on the customer satisfaction and re-visit intention. SPSS is used to analyze the data and statistical procedures of frequency analysis, factor analysis, calculation of Cronbach's Alpha, and regression analysis are used for the description of the sample, measure purification and test of reliability, and hypothesis testing.
The study results are as follows: First, tangibility/reliability, responsiveness/assurance has significant effects on the customer satisfaction. Second, among customer characteristics tested for the moderating effect (gender, age, membership, average number of rounds in a month), only membership and average number of rounds in a month have moderating effects at responsiveness/assurance. Third, the customer satisfaction has an effect on re-visit intension.
The theoretical implications and connotations of the results are discussed and future research agenda are provided as well. The study concludes with the strategic suggestions for improving the service quality of golf club.
