      Korean government has carried out the educational reform with the purpose of establishing the new education system and the new vocational education system. The newly planned education system could be characterized as the open education system for realizing the life-long learning society. The educational reform includes policies and strategies related to the higher education like the introduction of diverse and special college models. With regard to the reform of higher education, this paper attempted to suggest directions and practical tasks of career education and career guidance at higher education level.
      The directions of college career education were summarized as follows: (a) considering diverse backgrounds of future college students; (b) connecting career guidance activities with secondary education stage activities; (c) introducing the employer-based(experience-based) career education model; (d) including career education into college curricula; and (e) establishing the career information system at higher education level.
      The practical tasks of college career guidance activities were proposed as follows: (a) helping self-exploration and self-understanding; (b) exploring the world of occupations and professions; (c) emphasizing the affective domain of career choice; (d) forming the sound vocational values and the occupational awareness; (e) enhancing career decision-making skills; and (f) putting into practice the guidance of employment and college-to-work transition.
