The importance of career education starting in middle school has been discussed in the literature on educational reform. The lack of programs for career education and counseling in middle school may be a factor In a higher rate of juvenile delinquency. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate career education in middle school in order to reduce psychological problems and a higher rate of juvenile delinquency among adolescents.
This paper is focuses on defining career education in middle school. Even though it has been thought that it is mere appropriate to begin this study in high school or in university, the author feels it is necessary fer students to begin making career plans in middle school in order that students may have enough time to explore the world of work.
In this exploration stage, students would mostly search what kinds of vocation are well matched with their own interests and capabilities.
There are several steps fer exploring the world of work. First, students can explore which vocational areas they are interested in. Second, they can come to a greater understanding of the categories cf various vocations and industries.
Third, they can increase their awareness of the elements for decision making concerning their future vocations.
Through this paper the author hopes to contribute te the development of a model for career education programs in middle school and counseling programs for adolescents. The result of this study may also be used to make policy for organizing welfare facilities for adolescents.
