시는 어떻게 진보에 기여하는가－후진성ㆍ진보ㆍ새로움ㆍ시－ = How does the Poetry Contribute to the Progress?－Backwardness, Progress, Newness, Poetry－

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this paper is to consider the interrelation between poetry and politics by mediating the notion of progress. In order to do that examination, first and foremost, it is necessary to redefine the notion of progress originated in the context of the history of philosophy. If the notion of progress does not mean advancing irreversibly in a linear path, it is inevitable to redefine it. In this paper, I regard ‘singularity’ and ‘newness’ as the episememe of the notion of progress.
When we emphasize the aesthetic autonomy as the condition of uniqueness in the art system, a critical mind linked to politics is easy to be excluded. Even though an act of artistic creation performs a constant self-transformation in the realm of aesthetic autonomy, unless that self-transformation is connected with the utopian possibility for a more truly democratic and more just society, its meaning will be very limited, or even worthless to be. I, thus, considered that question by being based on the perspective: although the sphere of the aesthetic autonomy appears apolitical, it is the secret point of reference and structuring principle of political struggles.
In this paper, I explained on some aspects of our society and literature that are linked with the progress, and, by focusing on the terms of ‘time-sensitive ethics’ and ‘singularity’, examined that how the originality and novelty in Kim, Soo-young’s poems and poetics becomes a progressive practice. In the process of such an analysis, I elucidated the new poetic achievement in Kim, Soo-young’s poems: “the snow” and “the grass” by focusing on the formation of landscape, and investigated the interrelation between poetry and politics by mediating the notion of progress by closely analyzing the key phrases in Kim, Soo-young’s poetics: “poetry, spit!”
