커뮤니티 케어 실현을 위한 사회참여예술과 서비스디자인의 특성 = Characteristics of Socially Engaged Art and Sercice Design for the Realization of Community Care

Background: In contemporary society, economic stagnation and social isolation have extended the need for care beyond the elderly to various marginalized groups, making it a complex social issue. In this context, community care is attracting attention as a new method of providing care services within local communities. However, current community care remains largely focused on the elderly and lacks a structure that can be naturally integrated into daily life. Therefore, this study explores the potential for addressing local community care challenges by proposing an expansion strategy for community care through the convergent approach of socially-engaged art and service design. Socially-engaged art delves into human emotions and social relationships, fostering emotional bonds and community formation. By combining these qualities with service design, socially-engaged art can help overcome the current limitations of community care.
Methods: In this study, we analyzed the effectiveness of an integrated model that combines the systematic approach of service design with the emotional approach of socially engaged art, through a literature review and case analysis of examples where the characteristics of service design and socially engaged art are fused.
Results: The convergence of the two approaches has been found to contribute not only to the provision of basic care services, but also to the establishment of a sustainable system of cooperation and voluntary participation among community members.
Conclusion: From the perspective of community care, this study proposes a paradigm shift in service design from a top-down, instrumental approach to a bottom-up, relationship-centered approach. It emphasizes that a sustainable, community-led care model can be realized based on multidisciplinary collaboration. This research suggests practical directions for future social innovation design and discusses how community care can become an important medium for leading the sustainable development of local communities.
