The purpose of this study was to assess the needs for the contents of dance education with the use of Purpose Process Curriculum Framework(PPCF) on the basis of Personal Meaning Curriculum Model.
The subjects included in the study were 1441(993 students; 141 dance teachers at middle and high schools, 277 college students majoring in physical education or dance education, and 30 professors). The research tool used in this study was the 『Dance Education Contents Awareness Questionare』 which was a Korean version of the PPCF developed by Jewett, etal(1977).
Statistical techniques to analyze the data were a t-test. a one-way ANOVA and the Scheffe's test.
On the basis of the analyzed data, the finding were as follows:
1) The most needful content to achieve dance education purposes was a creative dance. The level of recognition for the necessity of the creative dance was higher in the teachers group(professors and teachers) than in students group.
2) Professors and teachers recognized that creative dance is most necessary to the attainment of the purposes of psychic eqilibrium, spatial orientation, object manipulation, communication and group interaction, ballet and aerobics to the attainment of the purpose of physiological efficiency, and folk dance to the attainment of the purpose of cultural involvement, respectively.
3) On the basic of the above conclusions, human movement purpose concepts presented in the PPCF underlying personal meaning curriculum models can be a adequate can be a adequate basis for the development of curriculum models for dance education.
