Polymyositis is one of the idiopathic inflammatory myopathy, characterized by myalgia, progressive symmetrical proximal muscle weakness, chronic non-suppurative inflammation of striated skeletal muscle, elevation of muscle enzyme, and electromyographical change.
The main pathogenesis is the cell mediated immunity, and some cases were associated with viral infection which developed autoimmunity.
59 years old female patient who did not have evidence of hepatitis B virus neither hepatitis C virus infection, was complaint of generalized muscle weakness and swallowing difficulty. The patient revealed characteristic findings of polymyositis on muscle biopsy with electromyographical changes. Also, liver biopsy specimen showed chronic hepatitis with mononuclear cell infiltration in widened portal tract and the lobular parenchyme.
We experienced a case of polymyositis which involved liver and developed chronic hepatitis comfirmed by liver biopsy. So we report this case with a review of the literature.
