실외 놀이기구와 유아의 발달과정: 구름사다리를 중심으로 = Outdoor Play Equipment and Developmental Progress in Children`s Using an Overhead Bar

It is widely recognized that play is important in children`s learning and development. However, not much research has been done in the area of outdoor play equipment and play environment. Some regulations were established in terms of construction rather than play safety for children in Korea. On the other hand, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission(CPSC) provides playground equipment safety information in the form of guidelines in the United States. According to safety standards in CPSC, overhead apparatus of climbers were not permitted in the outdoor play ground for the age range 2 to 5 years. In this study, preschool age children`s developmental progress was observed and analyzed in using an experimentally established overhead bar following safety regulations in terms of height and ground surfacing. The result of this study showed that developmentally appropriate playground equipment can be used safely by the preschool age children if scaled to the ability of users. The result of this study indicates that more research need to be conducted to provide safety regulation and guidelines for outdoor play environment and play equipment.
