The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of listening and speaking activities using picture storybooks which were written about Children's Activities of Daily Living on mentally retarded children whose language development was delayed. In this study, Listening and Speaking activities consist of activity of being told repeatedly and activity of being asked to retell a story.
The following research questions were formulated.
First, are these activities effective to improve language comprehension ability of mentally retarded children?
Secondly, are these activities effective to improve language expression ability of mentally retard children?
The subjects were three educable mentally retarded children who lived in Chung ju area. Each subject was scheduled for 30 minute session hour times a week and he/she was heard one story for a week according to the arranged four steps. ; who received 29, 31, 33 sessions respectively during three months.
The treatment design used was a multiple baseline design across subject.
The results of this study were summarized as follows :
There was some improvement in the ability of language comprehension and expression of all the subjects as a result of this program
