A methodology for high-speed elevator cabin design that combines the tools of industrial design and engieering analysis is proposed. Based on a sample survey of existing elevator installations, a set of design criteria which includes the cabin size, capacity, and operating speed is introcduced. In order to meet defferent needs of human aesthetics, 6 conceptual design types for elevator cabin are devised. For each cabin design, the methods of engineering analysis for reducing the cabin noise and vibration while ensuring the passenger safety are also described.
