This paper identified that the root cause of various problems in the Korean church that emerged during COVID-19 was the separation of Christian faith and life, and in the process of considering how the Bible claims the connection between faith and obedience, it focused on the correlation between obedience and eternal life. Through the two texts, we tried to examine how salvation and eternal life through faith affect the saved believers and lead them to obey Jesus' commands.
To this end, we examine the grammatical meaning of the commandments shown in John 14 and John 2 and observe the obedience of the commandments and the atonement ministry of Christ,
In addition, it was discovered that knowledge of God was repeated in a sandwich structure that knowledge of God should be shared with eternal life, and that obedience and eternal life of the commandment were closely related and influenced.
Next, looking at the use of the vocabulary of commandments, it was confirmed that the term commandment was concentrated in the New Testament to more than one-third of the New Testament. In addition, while examining the correlation between the Torah of the Old Testament and the law and commandment, it was discovered that most of the 613 provisions of the law, Mitsuba, were translated into commandments in the seventy-man station. On the other hand, through the New Testament, the commandment was used as an exclusive Torah, or the meaning was gradually expanded to Jesus himself, or to disciples and Christians
All.
Subsequently, while examining the relationship between the law and commandments, it was discovered that commandments could be used in the New Testament in a cross-section with the law, distinct from Mishna, and comprehensive and extended use of the law and commandments could be the basis for the cross-section and expansion of the new commandments. Looking specifically at the Roman Book, I think that the meaning of the law can be interpreted in various ways, narrowly in the Ten Commandments, Mitsuba, and Mishpat, broadly in the Torah and Tanak.
The next thing we looked at was how the meaning of the law was distorted in the New Testament, and the theme of the spirit and conduct of the law was never limited to the Old Testament, and was strengthened through Jesus and completed in terms of achieving the new covenant. In terms of the new covenant, obedience to the commandments is an essential element for Jesus' disciples, and is no longer impossible.
And to prove that the emphasis on keeping the commandments does not emphasize meritocratic salvation in the Bible, it was intended to reveal the correlation between obedience to the commandments and the meaning of the commandments. In particular, Luther, Calvin, and Jonathan Edwards, who led the Reformation, all emphasized faith, and the torch and cross also emphasized a life of obedience to the word through repentance.
Finally, among the various Bible words, we looked at how uncertain beliefs affect eternal life, salvation, and obedience to commandments. All the contents of the backward faith, the fragile faith, the dead or vain faith, the little faith, the broken faith were consistently given as an expression of warning or reproach, and contained elements which cast doubt on the certainty of salvation and eternal life. Therefore, enjoying the richness of eternal life through solid faith and obedience to commandments is so desperately necessary for both believers and churches of this era. In order to enjoy the obedience of the commandments and the abundance of eternal life with the Lord, the saints will first have to look back on their beliefs and restore the root cause.
