치유의 기호학적 함의: 찰스 샌더스 퍼스와 에릭 에릭슨의 논의를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

상담을 통해 개인에게 치유적 통찰이 일어나는 심리내적 기제는 퍼어스의 기호작용에 관한 이론적 틀로 설명할 수 있다. 퍼어스는 기호작용이 우리가 지각하는 대상, 그 대상으로 인해 마음속에 그려지는 심상, 그리고 그 심상의 해석 사이의 역동적 관계로 설명한다. 이 관계는 연속적이고 무한이 일어나는 것으로 퍼어스는 이 해석작용을 세미오시스라고 명명한다. 이 연속적이고 무한한 의미작용이 상담에 주는 함의는 상담에서 상담을 필요로 하는 한 개인이 자신이 가지고 있는 삶의 경험을 지각, 표상, 이해하는 과정을 거쳐 이로부터 어떤 치료적 함의를 도출해 내는지를 보다 구체적으로 설명할 수 있다는 것이다. 이러한 치유적 통찰이 가능하게 하는 것은 한 개인에게 있어서, 통찰이 가능하게 하는 심리내적 기제가 전제되어야 하는데, 에릭 에릭슨은 그것을 내적 공간의 개념으로 제시한다. 내적 공간은 한 개인에게 있어서 종교적 경험과 미학적 경험을 가능하게 하는 전제가 되는 것으로, 한 개인이 자기 자신에 대한 내적 통찰의 능력과 더불어 심리내적 여백 혹은 공간을 가지고 있음을 개념적으로 지칭하는 말이다. 퍼어스의 의미작용과 에릭슨의 내적 공간의 개념을 통해 상담자는 한 개인의 의미작용에 구체적으로 어떻게 개입할 것인지, 그리고 내담자가 치료적 통찰에 이르도록 하기에 필요한 것들이 무엇인지 등에 대한 유용한 도움을 받을 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Charles Sanders Peirce’s theoretical framework of sign can play a critical role in explaining the inner mechanism where therapeutic insight occurs. Peirce explains the sign-producing process signs with the dynamic relationships among object, representatum, and interpretant. The sign-producing process-i.e., meaning generating process—which is called semiosis occurs continuopusly and endlessly. The implication of semiosis in counseling is that it can concretely explain how an individual get to the therapeutic insight through the signing process, such as perception-representation-interpretation. In order for this therapeutic insight to be possible, there is a prerequisite. Erik Erikson suggests it as a concept, “inner space”. Here, inner space is a inner precondition or a psychological ground that makes an individual’s religious and aesthetic experience possible. Erikson explains that this concept indicates both an individual’s psychological capability for inner speculation and the psychological margin as a ground for this inner speculation. With the help of these two theoretical framework, counselor can provide useful clues how counselors can involve into an individual’s meaning generating process in a series of counseling sessions as well as, in the therapeutic relationshi
