조기 영어 교육에 관한 부모의 인식 및 만족도 조사 연구 : 군산 지역 유치원과 사설 영어학원을 중심으로 = Study on the Perception and Satisfaction of Parents Regarding Early English Education : A Comparative Study of the Pre-School Institutes and the Private English Academies in the City of Gunsan

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 유아를 대상으로 조기 영어 교육을 실시하는 전라북도 군산시의일반 유치원과 영어 전문 학원을 중심으로 조기 영어 교육에 대한 학부모의 인식 및 만족도를 비교 분석하는 데 목적을 두고 있다.
본 연구를 통하여 얻어진 결론은 다음과 같다.
첫째, 학부모들은 조기 영어 교육의 필요성에 대하여 매우 높게 인식하고 있었다. 이러한 인식은 교육 기관에 따라 차이가 있었으며, 영어 전문 학원 학부모들이 일반 유치원 학부모에 비하여 조기 영어 교육의 필요성에 대하여 더 높게 인식하고 있었다.
둘째, 학부모들은 자녀들이 영어교육에 대하여 흥미를 가지고 있다고 인식을 하고 있었으며, 영어 전문 학원의 유아들이 일반 유치원에 비하여 흥미를 더 가지고 있다고 인식하고 있었다.
셋째, 조기 영어교육의 효과에 대하여 일반유치원 학부모들은 '영어에 대한 아동의 흥미와 동기 유발', '외국인에 대한 거부감 해소', '영어 발음의 유창성'의 순으로 인식하였고, 영어 전문 학원 학부모들은 '영어에 대한 아동의 흥미와 동기 유발', '영어 발음의 유창성', '영어 회화 능력 향상'의 순으로 인식하고 있었다.
넷째, 유아 대상 영어 교육에 대하여 일반 유치원에 비하여 영어 전문 학원 학부모들의 만족도가 더 높았으며, 교육기관에서 사용하는 교재에 대한 만족도의 차이는 통계적으로 유의미하지 않았다.
다섯째, 영어 교수방법 및 교구에 대한 만족도는 일반 유치원에 비하여 영어 전문 학원의 학부모들의 만족도가 더 높았으며 영어 담당 교사에 대한 만족도도 더 높았다. 영어 담당 교사에 대한 만족의 이유는 '교사에 대한 신뢰', '재미있는 수업 진행 방식', '정확한 발음'의 순이었다.
여섯째, 영어 교육 시간 및 횟수에 대한 만족도는 일반 유치원에 비하여 영어 전문 학원이 더 높았으며, 이러한 만족도의 차이는 통계적으로 유의미하였다. 요컨대, 유아 대상 조기 영어 교육의 필요성에 대한 인식에서는 일반 유치원 학부모와 영어 전문 학원 학부모 사이에 특별한 차이가 없었지만, 실제 영어 교육에 대한 만족도에서는 차이가 있었다. 즉, 영어 교수방법 및 교구, 영어 담당 교사, 영어 교육의 시간 및 횟수 등에 대하여 영어 전문학원 학부모들의 만족도가 더 높은 것으로 나타났다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study was intended to analyze the perceptions and satisfaction of parents regarding early English education performed in such educational institutes as preschools and private English academies in Gunsan, Jeollabukdo.
The findings of this study are as follows:
First, the parents perceived the necessity of early English education at an intense level overall. The intensity of perception, however, varied depending on which types of educational institutes their children attend. Parents who send their children to private English academies turned out to have a higher demand for more professional English education in general than the parents who send their children to general preschools.
Second, the parents were convinced that their children are interestedin English education, and the parents who send their children to private English academies were more convinced of their children's willingness to learn English than the parents who send their children to general preschools.
Third, parents of general preschoolers ranked the effects/outcomes of their English education in the order of 'stimulation of the children's interests in and motive for learning English', 'decrease in rejection of foreigners', and 'improvement in English pronunciation'. On the other hand, parents at private English academies ranked the outcomes in the order of 'stimulation of the children's interests in and motive for learning English', 'improvement in English pronunciation', and 'increase in ability to verbally communicate in English'.
Fourth, parents were generally more satisfied with the education provided at private English academies than at general preschools. The satisfaction rate with the texts used by each type of educational institutes showed no remarkable statistical difference.
Fifth, parents at private English academies showed a higher degree of satisfaction with the instructors, their teaching methods and texts than those at general preschools. Factors for satisfaction with English instructors included 'trust in the instructors', 'fun and efficient way of teaching', and 'native-like pronunciation'.
Sixth, parents were more satisfied with the efficiency of the volume and number of classes of English education provided at private English academies than at general preschools, and the difference in response of satisfaction was statistically remarkable.In other words, parents of students attending private English academies were found to be more satisfied with the methodologies and tools used in teaching, English instructors, and the quantity of English education provided to their children than the parents of general preschoolers.
