The purpose of this study was to evaluate the success rate of one-appointment endodontic therapy compared with conventional endodontic therapy.
64 single rooted teeth were treated with one-appointment endodontic therapy and 98 single rooted teeth with multi-appointment endodontic therapy. After 6 months and 1 year, the success rates evaulated through radiographs and clinical symptoms.
The following results were obtained ;
1. The success rates of one-appointment endodontic treatment were 91.9% after 6 months and 92% after 1 year. The success rates of multi-appointment endodontic treatment were 93.1% after 6 months and 94.3% after 1 year. There was no signigicant difference in the success rate between both methods (P>0.05).
2. The success rates of 1 year was not different from the success rate after 6 months following both mothods (P>0.05).
3. The success rates of one-appointment endodontic treatment were not different from the evaluation through the presence of clinical symptoms or not and the radiographs (P>0.05).
4. The success rates following one-appointment endodontic treatment were not affected by the presence of pulp vitality or not, the presence of periapical rarefaction area or not and the age and the sex of patients (P>0.05).
5. The success rates were not affected by the postoperative pain (P>0.05).
