This experimental studies were performed to determine the changes of myocardial glycogen contents and enzyme activities during carbon monoxide (Co) exposure in rat.
The experimental rate (Sprague-Dawley strain) were exposed by 1000ppm and 5000ppm of Co. for 5 minutes to 24 hours.
Histochemical studies had been made on changes of glycogen content and activities of adenosine triphosphatase, cytochrome oxidase and lactate dehydrogenase, according to different exposure conditions.
The following results were obtained;
1. The glycogen content of myocardium was decreased moderately in groups after 1 hour exposure with 5000ppm of Co and 4 hours exposure with 1000 ppm of Co.
2. The adenosine triphosphatase activity of myocardium was decreased moderately in groups after 1 hour exposure with 5000 ppm of Co and 8 hours exposure with 1000ppm of Co.
3. They cytochrome oxidase activity of myocardium was decreased moderately in groups after 15 minutes exposure with 5000ppm of Co. In exposure groups with 1000ppm of Co, the cytochrome oxidase activity was decreased moderately from 30 minutes to 24 hours groups, but 2 and 4 hours was recovered temporarily as normal group.
4. The lactate dehydrogenase activity of myocardium was decreased moderately in groups after 1 hour exposure with 5000ppm of Co and 8 hours exposure with 1000ppm of Co.
