American politics is in general included in the field of comparative politics, but it is considered as an independent subfield of political science in the U.S.A. Whereas American politics as a science pursues generalization and universalism, American studies as area studies seeks for particularism and diversities. We cannot gainsay that political science in America has been a frontrunner in this area. American politics has greatly contributed in developing and generalizing political knowledge. Over 100 years since the political science had settled as an academic field, American politics has been explored focusing on certain specific subjects. The American Political Science Review has been a guideline for analyzing the articles or studies to examine the trend or tendency of the studies of American politics. In the early days the articles on American politics were over 50% among all the published. However, its rate has been changed over time balancing with comparative politics, international politics, and political thoughts. Its subjects also has diversified such as congressional politics, executive decision making, elections, bureaucracy, interest groups, presidency, mass media, public attitudes, public laws, state and municipal politics, judiciary, etc. Nevertheless elections, party politics, and congressional politics have been the most popular subjects all the time in studying American politics.
