      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

      This study aims to design a GIS based teaching and learning model for industrial location theory. First, I reviewed the direction of research on geography education based on GIS in Korea. Only a few studies focused on teaching and leaning geography using GIS, and besides they used similar methods of teaching and learning. Next, I investigated the characteristics of Weber`s industrial location theory as educational contents, and suggested a problem solving learning model based on GIS. Problem solving learning requires students to take on active learning strategies, so enhances students` understanding and problem solving skills. In particular, GIS based visual analysis can support students` intuitive understanding of abstract concepts and principles of the theory. Finally, I suggested teaching and learning plan and demonstrated a GIS application could be used in the real classroom situation.
