The aim of this paper is to propose some instructional strategies for developing students' communicative competence. The Sixth and Seventh National Curriculum on the English language stipulated that the teacher should focus on the development of her students' ability to communicate in English. However, in order to develop this ability, Korean EFL teachers should try to solve lots of problems in their English instructions.
The following are the instructional strategies proposed in this paper: EFL teachers should take an integrated approach to EFL instruction; They should reduce time to memorize forms and structures, emphasizing the context in which language structures are used; they need to provide maximum opportunity to communicate between students; they should teach English through English; they should provide lots of pairwork activities; and they should selectively correct their students' mistakes.
In order to effectively use such strategies, non-native EFL teachers should change their beliefs in EFL instruction as well as their teaching methods and techniques.
