Otosclerosis is a disease causing impairment of air conduction (AC) hearing perception due to stiffening of stapes annular ligament. Clinically, either stapedotomy or stapedectomy is suggested as a remedy to overcome the conductive hearing loss (CHL) caused by otosclerosis. It is generally accepted that stapedectomy improves the CHL more than stapedotomy, but stapedectomy is considered as more dangerous operation method than stapedotomy because the surgical site in the stapedectomy is much larger than stapedotomy. In this study, the effect of closing material on CHL was studied using three-dimensional-finite element model. This study will be helpful in selecting an appropriate closing material in stapedectomy operation.
