With the advance of ICT, today, urban environments have evolved into a space where new interaction happens based on a biological paradigm in which the methods of biology are combined into technology. The purpose of this research is to propose the new urban media that have biological properties. For this study, first, the theories related to a biological paradigm are explored as a theoretical framework. Second, in order to apply the methods of biology to urban media, related technologies are reviewed. Lastly, through the case studies and analysis of related works, the properties and methods for developing new urban media are provided. The new urban media proposed in this paper have the distinctive characteristics of flexibility, personalization, expandability, controllability, and heterogeneity and enable new services to emerge as a urban platform. As this research provides the development direction of urban media and constructs the applicable specific scenarios, this research contributes to providing the new method for developing new urban media in the near future.
