최인훈 소설에 나타난 시선 주체의 문제 -소설 『광장』을 중심으로 = The problem on the subject of sightline showed in novel of Choi Inhun -focusing on the novel, 『the Plaza』

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper pays attention to the problem on the subject of sightline in the literature of Choi Inhun. Especially, focusing on his representative piece, 『the Plaza』, mainly discussed by its political massages, this paper aimed to analyze what is targeted in the moving sightline of main character and in the sightline system of the narrator. The adventure of Lee Myeongjun in 『the Plaza』 is not the abstract and ideological but the adventure of 'sightline'. Lee Myeongjun, who finds the place on the subjecthood of sightline through the world of 'window' and 'book', can meet the possibility of the other life over the abstract system by the sexual reality, woman and body. It is also called as the process to find the name of other love without ideological sightline of others and without sightline of ghost, which appeared continuously. However it is also called as the process breaking up him, a subject of sightline fundamentally. So 『the Plaza』 is the real narration of ego and the narration on the fundamental doubt of the idea, ego. 『the Plaza』 doesn't remain as a modern and individual agony, called as 'inharmony with oneself, shows the adventure of sightline improving the contradiction. In the modern situation dividing 'the plaza' and 'secret room', Lee Myeongjun doesn't emphasize one value than other value and doesn't surrender to the normative order and finally lives in modern inharmony until the end. The process checking the justification of self-awareness by establishing the subject of sightline is also the process experiencing the division of self-criticism and self-observation. The adventure of sightline in 『the Plaza』 shows other literary place in the place to insist the contradiction until the end

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문에서 주목하고자 하는 것은 최인훈 문학에서의 ‘시선 주체’의 문제이다. 특히 최인훈의 대표작이며, 그 정치적 메시지와 관련하여 논의되어 온 『광장』을 중심으로 주인공의 시선의 동선과 서술자의 시선 체계가 어떤 대상을 향해 움직이는가를 분석하고자 한다. 이 논문이 기존의 최인훈 문학의 연구 성과들과 변별되는 문제의식은, ‘시선 주체’라는 구체적인 개념으로 최인훈 소설을 분석함으로써 현대성의 ‘사소하고 다른’ 영역을 탐구하려는 것이며, 주체성의 문제를 자기동일성의 추구라는 맥락으로 한정하지 않고, 주체의 자기 감시와 분열이라는 아이러니를 분석하려는 것이다. 『광장』에서의 이명준의 모험은 관념적이고 이데올로기적 모험이 아니라, ‘시선’의 모험이라고 할 수 있다. ‘창’과 ‘책’의 세계를 통해 시선의 주체성의 장소를 마련했던 이명준은, 여자와 몸이라는 성적 리얼리티를 통해 그 관념적 체계 너머의 다른 삶의 가능성을 만난다. 그것은 이데올로기적인 타인의 시선과 끊임없이 출몰하는 유령의 시선으로부터 벗어나 다른 사랑의 이름을 발견하는 과정이기도 하다. 그러나 그것은 결국 시선주체로서의 자기를 근원적으로 해체하는 과정이기도 하다. 『광장』은 그래서 투철한 자아의 서사이면서, 자아라는 관념에 대한 근원적인 회의의 서사가 된다. 『광장』은 ‘자기 자신과의 불화’라고 하는 현대적 개인의 고뇌를 설정한데서 머물지 않고, 그 모순을 심화시키는 시선의 모험을 보여준다. '광장'과 '밀실'의 분리라는 현대적 상황에서 이명준은, 어떤 가치를 다른 가치에 복속시키거나 규범적 질서 속으로 투항하는 것이 아니라, 그 현대적인 불화를 마지막까지 살아낸다. 최인훈의 소설은 시선 주체의 동일성을 통해 자기인식의 정당성을 확인하는 과정이 아니라, 큰 타자의 응시와 자기감시의 분열을 경험하는 존재의 사건을 드러낸다. 『광장』에서의 시선의 모험은 그 자기 모순을 끝까지 밀고 나가는 자리에서 현대성의 문학적 장소를 보여준다. 시선 주체의 드라마 속에서 이명준의 실패는 주체성의 분열을 소설화하는 미적 현대성의 다른 장소를 가리킨다.
