프랑스 공화주의 모델의 형성 = 제 3공화국과 민주주의의 공고화(1885-1940)

국문 초록 (Abstract)

자유민주주의 체제의 성립으로서 프랑스 제 3공화국은 정당들을 통해 제기된 사회적, 정치적 쟁점들을 해결하면서 프랑스 민주주의의 틀을 형성시킨다. 공화국은 단순히 하나의 제도적 체제의 의미만이 아니라 ‘하나의 정치 모델’로서의 의미를 획득하게 된다. 정치적 모델로서 공화국은 “자신의 역사의 한 계기 속에서 직면한 다양한 문제들에 대한 사회의 답변의 특정한 형태”를 표상하는 것이며, 또한 그것은 “정신적 표상, 철학적 토대, 역사적 근거들, 가치, 제도, 사회조직, 정치적 실천 등이 결합된 사회체제”를 의미한다. 극좌와 극우를 배제하면서 가능한 광범위한 공화주의적 연대를 형성하고 그것을 통해 공화국을 지켜냈던 당시의 경험을 통해 ‘공화주의 모델’은 만들어졌다. 프랑스 혁명 이래 제기되었던 과제들, 즉 시민의 권리, 국민주권, 대의제라는 민주주의의 세 가지 축의 관점에서 보면 공화주의 모델의 형성은 프랑스 민주주의를 시민의 권리의 확장, 대의제 개념의 확대를 통한 주권 개념의 풍부화 등을 통해 굳건히 공고화한다. 민주주의의 공고화 및 심화로서 공화주의 모델은 현재에 이르기까지 프랑스 공화국의 독자성을 확보해 주는 역할을 하고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The French 3<SUP>rd</SUP> Republic as liberal-democratic regime formated cadres of French democracy, solving the social and economic issues which were provided by political parties. The Republic was not only a institutional regime but also a political model. The Republic as political model represented “a form of response of society on problems which she affronted in the moment of her history” and, signified “mental representations, philosophical fundamentals, historical references, values, institutions, social structure, political practices”. The republican model is made through her experiences, formating republican solidarity and excluding extreme-right and extreme-left. In the point of citizenship, national sovereignty and representation which is three axis of democracy, the republican model consolidated french democracy, extending the citizenship and enriching the conception of sovereignty through expansion of representation. The republican model as consolidation of democracy plays roles which ensure French particularity until today.
