저널리즘의 환경 변화와 전문직주의 현실: 반성적 시론 = Environmental change and professionalism in Korean journalism: A reflective sketch

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

While there are many studies analyzing crisis of Korean journalism in changing media environment, relatively few of them are found on the journalistic professionalism. This paper gives an overview with a sociological approach on the problems of Korean journalistic professionalism. Experiencing dynamic historical events such as Japanese colonial rule, the division into North and South, the military dictatorship and an abrupt democratization, Korean journalism has not had enough time maturing its own value; it mechanically imported and implemented Anglo-American objective journalistic practices, missing its core value. Then, patriotism and commercialism has hindered Korean journalistic professionalism developing its own value and practices. However, recent change into the online journalism environment strongly demands us to take a new look at the professionalism. The paper applies Freidson`s view of professionalism to assess problems of Korean journalistic professionalism and calls for a need to consider new prospects in the field.
