내러티브 탐구를 통해 본 청소년기 아버지 사별 경험이 성인여성의 성장에 미친 영향 = The Influences of the Bereavement of Fathers during the Adolescence on the Processes of psychological Growth in Adult Women Using Narrative Inquiry

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to help adult women who overcame lost their fathers during the adolescence understand in depth by reconstructing the meaning of the bereavement experiences using narrative inquiry. To do this, the narrative data of three participants were reconstructed into a narrative exploration space consisting of the temporal, social, and place dimensions suggested by Clandinin and Connelly(2006). As result, the bereavement experiences have led them to develop three life strategies for survival; ‘active taking over caring roles’, ‘maintaining voluntarily structured frameworks’, and ‘bearing the difficulties throughly and calmly’. The six impacts of the bereavement on their lives were as follows; 1) They realized that their childhood personalities were developed through their relationship with father 2) They lived with an impressive memory of their father, 3) They had to accept and endure lives without fathers by their own efforts 4) They choose male partners based upon the imprinted father’s images 5) They lived with the replaced images of fathers 6) They could realized who they were through the stories concerning their fathers. The participants could identify the meanings of the bereavement experiences in their lives during the course of the narrative study as follows; They have tried to overcome economic, emotional, and social difficulties by their own efforts and to support for family members while supporting themselves. They have also protected themselves by break off relationships with paternal relatives, minimized social networks, and chose spouses unlike their fathers who died early. They have overcome the impacts of the fathers’ deaths by tolerating fear, anxiety, sadness and guilt in their own way and idealizing their fathers to whom they wished to attach. In this way, they could reconstruct their identity through the narratives they produced regarding their lives after losing fathers, and thereby could recognize that their personalities were developed with the disciplines and nurturing by their fathers in childhood. They also could confirm identify their fathers loved them and change fathers’ negative images into the positive ones, which allowed them to improve their capacities to understand self and others. Finally, based on the results of this study, further research questions were suggested.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 청소년기에 아버지를 사별한 성인여성 3인의 내러티브를 통해 사별 경험을 재구성하여 그들에게 사별의 의미를 심층적으로 이해할 수 있도록 돕는 것이었다. 이를 위해 Clandinin 과 Connelly(2006)가 제안한 내러티브 탐구의 절차에 따라 연구참여자의 경험과 의미를 시간․사회․장소의 3차원적 내러티브 탐구공간으로 재구성하였다. 이들은 사별 경험을 ‘돌보는 역할의 책임을 의무화함’, ‘스스로 만든 틀에 갇혀 얽매임’, ‘철저하고 냉정하게 버텨냄’으로 감당하고 있었다. 아버지 사별로 인해 연구참여자들의 삶에 미친 영향은 다음과 같이 6가지로 나타났다. 이들은 ‘아버지와의 관계를 통해 어린 시절 성격이 형성’되었고, ‘아버지와의 인상적인 추억’을 가지고 살아가고 있었으며, ‘아버지의 사별을 자신만의 방식’으로 수용하였다. 더 나아가 이들은 ‘각인된 아버지상이 남성을 선택하는 기준’이 되었고, ‘대체된 아버지의 이미지’를 가지고 살았으며, ‘아버지 이야기를 통해 자기를 자각’하게 되었다. 연구참여자들은 내러티브 탐구과정을 거쳐 청소년기 아버지 사별 경험에 대하여 다음과 같은 삶의 의미를 확인하였다. 이들은 아버지 상실의 영향으로 경제․정서․사회적 어려움을 자신만의 방식으로 극복하였고, 시공간을 가족들에게 양보하였으며, 가족을 원조함으로써 ‘홀로서기의 강화’된 삶을 살아왔다. 이후 연구참여자들은 자기를 보호하기 위해 ‘친가와의 관계를 단절’하였고 ‘사회적 관계망을 축소’하였으며, ‘아버지와 반대되는 남성을 배우자로 선택’하였다. 이들은 공포감, 불안감, 슬픔, 죄책감의 고통을 자신만의 방식으로 감내하였고, 아버지의 이미지를 미화하여 결핍된 애착 대상에 대한 ‘회복적 애도의 과정’을 거침으로써 사별을 극복하였다. 이들은 또한 아버지 부재를 통해 ‘자아 정체성’을 새롭게 재구성하여 ‘어린 시절 아버지의 훈육과 양육’으로 ‘자기 인성이 형성’되었음을 자각하였다. 그리고 ‘아버지에게 사랑받은 존재’였음을 확인하였고 ‘부정적이었던 아버지의 이미지를 긍정적으로 인식’하였으며 ‘자신과 타인에 대한 이해의 폭을 확장’하였다. 마지막으로, 이러한 결과를 토대로 후속연구 과제에 대하여 제언을 하였다.
