The chemical properties, compositions and components of fatty acid in the extracted lipid from Styrax japonica seeds were investigated as follows :
1. The proximate chemical compositions of S.japonica seeds were 21.1% in crude protein, 45.2% in fat, 12.3% in carbohydrate and 3.1% in ash.
2. The acid value, saponification value, iodine value and peroxide value of S.japonica seed oil were 2.97, 196.97, 128.52 and 68.47, respectively.
3. The total lipid was consisted of neutral lipid 89.74%, glycolipid 8.55% and phospholipid 1.71%
4. The fatty acid compositions of total lipid were 45.5% in linoleic acid, 41.6% in oleic acid, 9.1% in palmitic acid and 3.8% in linolenic acid. The total content of unsaturated fatty acids was 90.9%
5. The fatty acid compositions of neutral lipid were 41.61% in myristic acid, 28.44% in capric acid, 6.94% in lauric acid, 4.59% in icosanoic acid, 3.43% in oleic acid and 1.95% in palmitic acid.
6. The fatty acid compositions of glycolipids were 38.70% in lauric acid, 3.99% in capric acid, 14.09% in linoleic acid, 12.20% in palmitic acid, 8.36% in linolenic acid, and 20.35% in unknown part.
7. The fatty acid compositions of phospholipid were 11.31% in palmitic acid,
