한국기업의 해외 자회사 규모와 본사의 통제수준간의 관계에 관한 실증 연구|RISS 상세보기

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 해외자회사 규모(size)와 본사의 해외 자회사에 대한 통제수준간의 선형적 관계가 이난 비선형적 관계 즉, U자형 관계를 밝히고자 하였다. 이러한 관계를 분석하기 위해 본 연구에서는 자회사 규모가 어느 일정수준까지 커질수록 통제수준이 낮아질 것이라는 선형관계에 있어서는 자원의존 이론(resource dependence theory)과 협상력 이론(bargaining power theory)을 적용하여 분석하였다. 그러나 본사입장에서 보면 해외자회사 규모가 일정 수준 이상 증가하면 해외 자회사가 보유하고 있는 풍부한 자원은 다국적기업의 글로벌 네트워크에 효율적으로 활용할 수 있는 중요한 자원이 됨으로서 활용의 대상이 되기 때문에 다국적기업 본사는 해외자회사를 과거보다 더 높은 수준의 통제를 부과할 가능성이 높아진다. 결과적으로 일정 수준 이상 자회사 규모가 증가하면서 다시 본사의 해외자회사에 대한 통제수준이 증가하는 현상 즉, 해외자회사 규모와 본사의 해외자회사에 대한 통제수준이 선형관계가 아닌 비선형 관계(U자형)가 있음을 실증분석을 통해 도출하였다. 본 연구는 기존 연구의 한계점으로 지적되온 통제 수준 측정을 운영적 통제수준과 전략적 통제수준으로 세분화하여 분석하였다. 이 로 인해 기존 연구에서 왜 통제수준 결정요인이 일관된 결과가 도출되지 않았는가에 대해 중요한 시사점을 제공해 주고 있다.

This study empirically investigates the relationship between subsidiary size and the level of subsidiary control in MNCs in China. The results show that there is a significant negative relationship between subsidiary size and subsidiary control at lower levels of subsidiary size. And a significant positive relationship between subsidiary size and subsidiary control appears as the level of subsidiary size increases, and the overall size-autonomy relationship exhibits a quadratic U shape. For examining a quadratic U-shaped model, this study uses resource dependence theory and bargaining power theory. For more elaborate investigation, this study separate control level into control level of operational issues and strategic issues because extant literatures have pointed out the problem of measurement of control level.
