The increasing recognition of the large number of people victimized by sexual assault has brought out Juvenile Sex Protection Act for protecting and extracting Juveniles from sexual violence. This study investigated knowledge and attitudes regarding Community Notification decree in Juvenile Sex Protection Act based on the survey data from 400 male employees living in Daegu area.
The findings revealed that subjects of this study recognized the Juvenile Sex Protection Act but their knowledge on community notification were not exact nor specific. In current law, name, age and date of birth, occupation, address and the gist of the offense are notified and posted on the website of the Commission on Youth Protection and governmental office but the study finding indicated that photos of offenders should included in notification and posted in more various ways for lay people to access. The result also indicated that people wanted to protect juvenile victims but to enforce offender more severe punishment. The study suggests several ways to protect juveniles from sex crimes and prevent sex offenders from repeating their criminal behavior.
