영어 동사합성어와 관련성 이론 = English Compound verbs and Relevance Theory

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this paper is to point out some limits in the English compound verbs' classifications of previous studies and to propose an alternative approach to English compound verbs based on Relevance Theory. On the basis of analyzing the relations between the constituents consisting of compound verbs, In the previous works English compounds verbs were generally classified according to their forms, functions, and meanings. In terms of functional relations between constituents, English compound words were classified as subordinative, determinative, coordinative. And in terms of meanings between constituents, they were classified as endocentric and exocentric. However, those classifications cannot explicitly demonstrate why the same compound verb in the same classification can have different meanings in different contexts. Thus this paper argues that in Relevance Theory English compound verbs are to be understood based on contextual information and the meaning of English compound verbs should be understood through the process based on ad hoc concept.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 영어 동사합성어의 이전 연구 분류에서 일부 한계를 지적하고 관련성 이론에 기초한 영어 동사합성어에 대한 대안적 접근법 제시를 목적으로 한다. 이전 연구에서는 동사합성어를 일반적으로 구성요소의 형태, 기능 및 의미에 따라 분류해왔다. 합성어의 구성 요소 간의 기능적 관계 측면에서 영어 복합 단어는 종속적, 결정적, 조정 적으로 분류되었습니다. 그리고 구성 요소들 간의 의미의 관점에서, 그것들은 외심적 또는 내심적 합성어로 분류하였다. 그러나 이러한 분류는 동일한 동사 합성어가 다른 맥락과 상황에서 사용되었을 때 다른 의미를 갖게됨에 따라 분류 범주가 달라질 수 있다는 것을 분명하기 설명하기 어렵다. 따라서 이 논문은 관련성 이론에서 영어 동사합성어가 문맥적 정보를 중심으로 해석되어야하며, 영어 동사합성어의 의미는 임시 개념에 기반하여 이해되어야한다고 주장한다.
