(Background and Purpose) The space perception of modern people in the corona pandemic is changing. Due to social distancing and self-isolation as disconnected from the external environment and stayed in their own space for a long time, Corona Red is progressing as a social phenomenon beyond Corona Blue. As a psychological solution, access to nature is emphasized in urban modern people's spatial planning. Stephen R. Kellert's Biophilic design, recognized as a pioneer who applied the principles of Biophilic design to the architectural environment and clearly expressed, is becoming a spatial alternative to overcome the corona crisis. Currently, the practice and application of Biophilic design is being activated through various approaches, thus criteria for understanding Biophilic design are needed. Also It should be an ecological connection as a sustainable space rather than a one-off. As the understanding and practice of Biophilic space is actively utilized in the modern space of the city, intending to present the direction of space as a Biophilic objet. Therefore, this study aims to improve the value of space that appears when the characteristics and elements of Biophilic design are applied to space as a Biophilic object and the meaning of space that connects nature and humans. (Method) First, it theoretically examines the spatial concept and the aesthetic concept of nature, and understands Kellert's Biophilic design based on the biophilia theory. Second, Biophilic design derives the characteristics of a biophilic object in space through the process of expanding its meaning as an object. Finally, After making the derived object characteristics into an analysis framework, focusing on the Stephen R. Kellert Biophilic Design Award works awarded by ILFI from 2017 to 2021. (Results) The object characteristics of Biophilic space are: First, the characteristics of ecological objects show pro-natural improvement and mediation of spatial experience and it appears as eco-friendly, circulation, reduction and openness, connection, interpenetration, and flow. Second, aesthetic objects were characterized by ecological aesthetics and pictureless attention, as harmonization, harmony, conception, and landscape, identity, symbolism, and sub-view. Third, The characteristics of psychological objects were confirmed by the results of analysis of sympathy, transfer, substitution, organicity, permanence, and perceptuality as healing imagery and cognitive phenomenon. (Conclusions) The objects appearing in the Biophilic space become both a medium that naturally connects to a space that connects, reproduces, and restores humans and nature, as well as nature itself. The application of Biophilic objects in space should aim for its value and meaning as a sustainable space connected to nature through an accurate understanding and interpretation of the space.
