      This study investigated the effects of perceived maternal social support and parental involvement in children's cognitive development in low income families and whether these relationships are mediated by parental involvement. Data were collected from the Data of Index Studies for Korean Child and Adolescent's Development of 2009. Data were analyzed by means of Pearson's Correlation and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results indicated that perceived maternal social support was positively related to maternal involvement in child care, educational play, leisure activities and children’s cognitive development. Maternal involvement in child care, educational play, and leisure activities were positively related to children's cognitive development. The levels of perceived maternal social support was found to have an indirect effect on early cognitive development as mediated by maternal involvement, such as the quality of care, cognitive stimulation, and playful leisure activities.
