The purpose of this study is to suggest that the strategic use of audio-visual aids(videotapes) provides a specific advantage to enhance English listening comprehension. This study investigates the effectiveness of the strategic use of the video programs in enhancing English listening comprehension for elementary school children. Both strategic use of the video programs before watching and after watching has a positive effect on the English learners for their listening comprehension. Selective turn off of the sound method requires a further study since it promotes mental rehearsal undoubtedly. Especially with foreign language, learning the use of audio-visual materials offers a direct access to the pronunciation of native speakers. These materials facilitate understanding and then play a decisive role in structuring a linguistic environment. It has been found that audio-visual materials can be effective. Furthermore, video materials are particularly effective since they involve sight and sound. The purpose of this study is to suggest that the strategic use of audio-visual aids (videotapes) provides a specific advantage to enhance English listening comprehension. This study investigates the effectiveness of the strategic use of the video programs in enhancing English listening comprehension for the elementary school children. Each video-tape consists of four different English animated dialogues and songs in four minutes. This experiment is executed twice a week for 40 weeks, 40 minutes long each time. A listening comprehension test is given to all four groups after two weeks from the completion of the experiments. These results conclude that both presentation of the outline before watching and after watching has a positive effect on the English learners for their listening comprehension.
