구(球)의 형태와 의미에 관한 연구 = A Study on the Form and Meaning of Sphere

The purpose of this study is to examine how artists in various fields expressed sphere, which are the core of all formative works, as artworks. Everything in nature is valid as a motive of art expression, but it is intended to understand the concept of the source of the form by revealing that the beginning of it originated in the form of a circle and the sphere.
Since the scope of the study of sphere is very wide, this study limited the scope to analysis from a formative perspective. Among the circular shapes that make up a sphere, those that have the same context as this study were included in the scope of the study. As a research method, I examined the characteristics of circles, which are the elements that make up the sphere, and examined the symbolic meaning of the circle and sphere geometrically and religiously. In order to analyze the shape and meaning of the sphere, the shape of the sphere existing in natural objects and the shape of the sphere applied to objects were analyzed.
As a result, it was proved that the most beautiful and perfect form since the birth of mankind was the sphere, and the symbolism of the sphere was revealed by giving various meanings to the sphere even in the religious viewpoints.
From a formative point of view, it was confirmed that the meaning of the sphere shape was expressed as a religious symbol, the smallest form that is the essence and origin of existence, the expression of the order and circulation of nature, and the potential infinite possibilities that exist in the round sphere shape. It had a common characteristic that the shape of a sphere is the core of everything.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 다양한 분야의 예술가들이 모든 조형의 핵심이라 할 수 있는 구를 어떻게 예술작품으로 표현했는지 살펴봄으로써 자연의 모든 것이 예술표현의 모티브로 유효하지만, 그 시작은 원과 구 형태에서 비롯되었다는 것을 밝히며 이를 통해 조형의 원천에 대한 개념을 파악하고자 하는 것이다. 구를 연구한 학문의 범위가 매우 넓어 본 연구에서는 조형적 관점에서의 분석으로 그 범위를 한정하며 구를 이루는 원형(圓形)의 형태 중에서도 본 연구와 그 맥락이 같은 것은 연구범위에 포함하였다. 연구방법으로는 먼저 구의 개념과 함께 구를 구성하는 요소인 원의 특징을 고찰하여 기하학적, 종교적으로 원과 구가 어떤 상징적인 의미를 가지고 있는지 살펴보았고 구의 형태와 의미 분석을 위해 자연물에 존재하는 구의 형태와 사물에 적용된 구의 형태를 분석해 보았다. 그 결과 인류가 탄생한 이후로 가장 아름답고 완벽한 형태가 바로 구라는 것이 입증되었고 종교적인 차원에서도 구에 대해 다양한 의미를 부여함으로써 구가 가진 상징성이 드러났다. 조형적 관점에서 본, 구의 형태가 갖는 의미는 종교적 상징, 존재의 본질과 근원인 가장 작은 형태, 자연의 질서와 순환의 표현 그리고 둥근 구 형태에 존재하는 잠재된 무한한 가능성으로 표현된 것을 확인할 수 있었고 이는 구의 형태가 모든 것의 핵심이라는 공통적인 특징을 가지고 있었다.
