한국인의 자기신세 조망양식으로서팔자(八字)의 이야기 분석과 통제신념과의 관계 분석 = Palzha (八字) as Lay People's Mode of Self-View on Negative Life Events and History in Korean Culture

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study was to conceptualize Palzha and investigate Palzha inference as mode of self-view. In general, people would like to attribute their unhappy and unfortunate life events or histories to Palzha which is given by the supernatural being. According to analysis of interviews and open-ended responses concerning on Plazha, Palzha indicated 'luck', 'uncontrollable situation', or 'fate' given by the supernatural being. In study 2, we conducted an analysis of the relationship between locus of control belief and Palzha attribution. More having external control belief, more tending to attributing the rugged life events or histories, and unexpected fortunate events to Palzha. Consequently, Palzha as mode of self-view on everyday events or life-events indicated it is likely to be another dimension of attribution on negative as well as positive life events in Korean culture.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 한국문화에서 상식적 귀인이자 자기신세조망양식으로서의 팔자에 관한 경험적 연구로, 기존의 탈맥락적이고 탈사회적인 규범적 귀인이 가지는 한계를 극복하기 위해 문화심리학적 관점에서 팔자의 의미를 밝히고자 했다. 한국문화에서는 기구한 인생이나 삶을 산 사람들, 특히 한(恨) 많은 사람들이 자신의 인생을 회고하고 그러한 인생을 살게 된 자신의 신세를 제 3 자적 관점에서 조망해 볼 때 팔자귀인을 한다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 일반인들의 팔자타령하는 상황, 이유와 심리적 기능, 통제신념과의 관계를 알아보기 위해 질적인 연구와 양적인 연구를 병행하여 실시하였다. 연구 1에서는 성인들을 대상으로 팔자타령을 언제 하는지, 왜 하는지 등을 알아보기 위해 면접을 실시하였고, 대학생들을 대상으로 개방형 설문지를 사용하여 팔자타령을 듣거나 경험하였던 상황과 이유에 대해 분석하였다. 연구 2에서는 팔자귀인과 통제신념과의 관계를 분석하였다. 연구 1의 분석결과, 팔자타령은 기구하거나 한 많은 삶을 살았을 때 그리고 운이 없을 때 마음을 달래기 위해 하는 것으로 나타났다. 연구 2에서는 외적 통제신념이 높은 사람들일이 기구한 운명적 삶이나 사건에 대해 팔자귀인을 많이 하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 한국인의 팔자타령은 심리적 위안을 얻기 위해 부정적 사건이나 삶에 대한 신세한탄이라는 정서적 반응과 인과 추론이 복합적으로 연결된 신세조망양식이라 할 수 있다.
