Korean Hanji (“traditional paper”) is sturdy, beautiful and practical paper. In the contemporary fashion, paper is one of the important materials that can be used in diverse ways. Moreover, it is possible to create superb formative effect with Hanji alone thanks to the Hanji-specific characteristics. In addition, because it is possible to express it using diverse multiple dimensional composition, Hanji is an excellent material when it comes to fashion as well, for expressing diversity and unique ideas. Therefore, it is necessary to make an effort to develop it while using it often. As for the research method used for this paper, literature on the history of Hanji, usage of Hanji and types of Hanji craft art was examined. Including the Hanji apparel that the researcher had produced and presented, expression techniques used for all types of Hanji fashion products that were introduced in the Jeonju fashion show during the last five years were analyzed in order to identify the characteristics of the Hanji, a fashion material with the goal of increasing its utility. Analysis results are as follows. First, there were many works that used traditional Korean craft art techniques. Second, there were many works that used decoration techniques. Third, there were works that made Hanbok (traditional Korean apparel) using Hanji and works that applied the Hanbok line or sewing method. Fourth, diverse techniques such as dyeing technique, digital print, knit band paint and others were used. Fifth, Hanji and other materials were mixed together to give birth to entirely different materials to use them to create works. Going forth, if we are to advance fashion design by conducting greater researches on the expression techniques by using Hanji, Korea's traditional material, Hanji will grow into the core material of new cultural contents.
