Shanghai Film Festival poster design changes in the past 10 years have brought new significance. Through the data, it is found that Shanghai Film Festival has developed from traditional to diversified. This paper uses the method of dualism in Saussures semiotics to study the composition of the visual elements of Shanghai Film Festival and their development significance from the angles of signifier (기표) and signified (기의) of the visual elements in posters. Film Festival in the past ten years, this paper uses charts and data analysis to sort out the meanings
and associations between the symbols of visual elements. It is concluded that the rational planning of
visual element symbols will produce different existence meanings for posters. In order to get a better
development in the international market, the Shanghai Film Festival has changed the poster from the
traditional signifier design to the more meaningful signified development direction, which has brought
new significance to the Shanghai Film Festival. In addition, this paper is limited to the analysis of visual
symbols from the perspective of dualism, so the research results are not absolute. This paper hopes
that we can better understand the significance of the existence between the composition of elements
and the poster. It is hoped that the Shanghai Film Festival can be improved while innovating
continuously, and provide more effective and positive suggestions for the poster creation of each film
festival in the future.
