Among the spreads of selfies and easy access to beauty programs, young people who prefer to take selfies and SNS become more interested in color cosmetics. The color cosmetics market is growing faster than basic cosmetics due to the awareness about the impact of appearance in our society. It shows that the higher demands for soft, clean skin expression by applying base make-up which is the basic step of color cosmetics. The cushion foundation is very significant product to meet these consumer needs. The cushion foundation having advantages of light texture, high portability and convenience for touch-ups is so popular that 75% of Korean women have used it. Functioning as a combination of UV protection, wrinkle-care and whitening, the cushion foundation has established new make-up categories and created new demands. The popularity of the cushion foundation has become a driving force behind K-Beauty overseas. The cushion foundation compact houses a sponge cushion soaked with the formula, gel-type ingredients, at the bottom of the compact. To dispense it, simply press onto the sponge cushion with the puff and apply it over the skin. In this study, it examines the advanced technologies hidden in the sponge applicators, the puffs and the structure of the compact. It also categorizes the containers by the functions and examines the problems of each functional container through the interviews and questionnaires with the experts. Finally, it seeks the directions for improvement and future possibilities to develop new functional containers for the cushion foundation.
