Biological indicators are species that can be used to monitor the health or the condition of an environment. Heavy metal contamination is one of the most important issue in soil health. We studied the possibility of selecting bioindicator of heavy metal contamination caused by the metal mining from oribatid mite community study. Sets of the bioindicator criteria were employed from the published data. After extensive sampling from the diverse habitats of contaminated and non-contaminated soil, presence of species and abundance were correlated with the heavy metal concentrations. Five species; Punctoribates punctum, Zygoribatula truncata, Zygoribatula elongata, Scheloribates latipes, and Trhypochthonius tectorum showed positive correlation to As, Cd, Pb and Zn concentrations. Two species of Anachipteria mahunkai and Epidamaeus fragilis were absent in contaminated soil while abundant in noncontaminated soil. Further community structure, indicator selection as well as the bioconcentration and its fitness could shed the possibility for better understanding of their survival and indicator mechanism. * Corresponding author
